5 steps to creating an effective guest blog

By Lesley Morrissey

Hi OnlineDon here,

This is the first of many Guest posts by people who are very talented writers and experts in their field.

When Lesley Morrissey was just a child her father’s comment about her writing was ‘You must learn to murder your children’.  She realised that words had to have a purpose and that has stuck with her ever since.  It was years before she discovered that her father had pinched that quote from George Bernard Shaw!

What people say about Lesley:

  • Lesley has a unique expertise in making the words and pictures really work,
    particularly on the web …
  • Lesley is the lady with the Golden Keyboard!! The pen they say is mightier than the sword and Lesley wields hers to devastating effect.

It gives me great pleasure to introduce to you Lesley Morrissey.

5 steps to creating an effective guest blog

When you’re invited to contribute to someone else’s blog, there are 5 steps to delivering a good quality piece that other people will enjoy.

Lesley Morrissey

1.       Ensure you’re familiar with the focus and content on the blog.  In this case, Don is an internet marketer who helps other people to become successful.   So I’m aiming the content at you!  If you’re going to market online you need to get content into as many places as possible.

2.      Keep your audience in mind – what do they want to know?  The subject of your blog needs to be relevant to them.  It’s no good writing about flower arranging if your audience is interested in car mechanics!

3.      Offer information of value – don’t just promote your business or services.  If you can genuinely help people to improve their skills or knowledge, they are much more likely to remember you and take an interest in other things your write.

4.      Stick to the point.  Say what you have to say and then stop – don’t write 300 words, just because other blogs are that long.  If you have made your point in 150 words STOP!

5.      Check your spelling, punctuation, grammar and – most important of all – your facts.  Attention to details like this are not noticed if you get it right, but, if you make errors your readers will start making judgements about you.

Good quality written material on the web will keep putting your name into the search engines for months and years to come.  Never miss an opportunity to make a positive impression.
